Six members of the Columbia County HAZMAT Team attended the 16th Annual Hazardous Materials Seminar at the Senator Frederick L. Warder Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls held February 20-22.  These members also participated in and won the 2009 Hazardous Materials Challenge.

The Challenge consisted of six practical stations:

1. Over pack a 55 gallon drum
2. Transfer over pack 100' using a hand truck.
3. Containment of a pipe leak.
4. 100 lb Chlorine cylinder containment evolution
5. Sample from a drum.
6. Victim removal using a wheeled Stokes

In addition to the Challenge, team members also attended several seminars designed to increase their understanding of hazardous materials, hazardous materials incidents and how to manage and mitigate those incidents.
