On Saturday, October 17, 2009, eighteen members of the Greenport Fire Department attended a drill on Propane Emergencies. The class was conducted by Matthew Larabee and Geoff Johnson, with the assistance of Dan Yakman of Mullhern Gas Company. The lecture session of the class was held at Becraft Station and the practical session took place at Colarusso's quarry on County Route 31.

Teams were assembled and given instructions on how to safely approach the shut off valve and turn it off while maintaining control of the heat and flames with a fog pattern.  Multiple revolutions were completed with everyone taking a turn at shutting off the valve.

During one revolution, a team experienced a "rollover", which was captured in the photos.  You will also see an interesting picture of the propane nozzle covered with ice and flames at the same time.

Thank you to the instructors and to Mulhern Gas for donating the truck and propane for this drill.
