Columbia County 911 dispatched Chatham Firefighters and Chatham Rescue at 9:37a.m. for a reported one car accident on Route 203 west of Edgewood Acres in the Town of Ghent.

Gregory McEwan, age 50, of Chatham was westbound in his 2006 Toyota Corolla when he swerved to avoid an animal and went off the south side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Command requested Ghent with 22-3 to respond.

The jaws were used to extricate the driver.

A helicopter that was on standby was requested to an LZ at Edgewood Acres. LifeNet 71 transported McEwan to Albany Medical Center.

The roadway was reopened at 10:50a.m.

The New York State Police investigated.
